Tree Removal - Call Before They Fall......
Trees near your home
are not only dangerous, they can be a problem for
your home and landscaping. Strong winds storms
during the year can bring a
tree or large limb down with no warning. Limbs
overhanging your roof line provide accumulation of
leaves and debris in crevices and gutters, and can
provide access for animals to your attic.
Pine Beetle
Infestation
Pine beetles are
unfortunately very common and very destructive. They
can infest living pines, kill them quickly, and move
to infect surrounding pine trees. If you see any
evidence of pine beetle activity you should take
immediate and decisive action. Evidence includes sap
or a brown sugar-like substance oozing from bark
crevices, or saw dust around the base of the pine
tree. After it is established that your tree has
pine beetles, it should be cut and removed
immediately - before the pine beetle infestation can
move to adjacent trees. There is no known treatment
for eliminating an infestation. We can assess
whether or not the tree contains pine beetles and
make a recommendation for remediation. There is no
charge for the inspection.
Mulch/Pine Straw Installation
This is a good time to
add or refresh the mulch and/or pine straw in your
landscaping. Check the depth of the mulch in your
landscape beds. If it is not at least 2 inches deep
you should add more, but do not go deeper than 4
inches. Mulch is very beneficial when rainfall is
limited. It can conserve soil moisture, moderates
soil temperature, and helps deter weeds.
Premium Sod Installation
With water
restrictions lifted now is a good time to refurbish
your turf from last year's drought. We offer premium sod
installation of Fescue, Bermuda, and Centipede turf.

Brown Patch
Brown Patch is a fungus
that develops on the turf in the summer. It is a
direct result from excessive moisture, high nitrogen
levels, and high evening temperatures (70° F and
above). The fungi that cause brown patch are
always present in turf even if symptoms are not
present. Early symptoms of brown patch are small
brown lesions that develop on individual leaves of
grass. These can quickly develop into “brown
patches” 1 to 2 feet in diameter. It is HIGHLY
RECOMMENDED that a fungicide be applied to your turf
as preventative maintenance once your sod is
installed. If you would like a preventative
application, or if you notice brown patch beginning,
please contact us for a cost estimate and to
schedule a fungicide application.
Drought Stress
This has been a stressful
season for our turf and shrubs due to the lack of
rain, mandatory water restrictions, and
record-breaking temperatures. Drought
stress and damage can occur on all grass types and
at any time of the year. Some warm season turf is
more drought tolerant than others, but all turf
types need approximately 1" of water each week to
maintain a healthy turf. Many grasses will survive
up to 6 weeks without water before they start to
die. If your turf is stressed due to our recent
drought you will notice that you will leave foot
prints in the lawn as you walk, the grass may have a
bluish green color to it, leaf blades will fold in
the center as it tries to conserve water and/or the
grass will have a thin straw like appearance.

ADVANTAGES
OF MULCH INSTALLATION
 |
Mulch contributes to the beauty of the landscape.
The contrasting color of the mulch compared to the
plants contributes to a natural yet neat appearance.
The vivid color of the mulch will hold fast
throughout the year enduring seasonal changes and
the weather. |
 |
Erosion control is an important function of mulch,
thereby providing more longevity over pine straw.
Erosion can be a concern especially in sloping or
bare areas that are exposed to heavy rains. Pine
straw breaks downs, allowing bare spots, especially
on hills and around tree rings. Mulch withstands
weather conditions to stay where installed,
therefore allowing more time between the need for
additional mulch installation. |
 |
Mulch suppresses weeds. A layer of mulch prevents
sunlight from reaching the soil, thereby reducing
the incidence of weeds. Mulch will not prevent all
weed seeds from sprouting, but does deter most
annual weed seedlings from coming through. |
 |
Mulch prevents soil and
possible fungi from splashing onto foliage, thus
reducing the likelihood of soil-borne diseases.
|
 |
Mulch helps
to keep moisture in the soil. Mulch acts as a
barrier which slows the water down before it hits
the soil. This way the water has a chance to soak
into the soil gradually. |
 |
The insulating value of mulches helps keep the soil
cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
Better growth of your plants throughout the growing
season will occur if excessive fluctuations in soil
temperature can be reduced. |
 |
Mulch
enriches the soil as it decays, forming a rich, and
dark, organic material called humus. Humus provides
nutrients to the soil thereby enhancing soil
fertility. It also improves the soil structure of
our clay soils (i.e., it loosens up tight clay
particles). |
 |
Mulch provides significant benefits to landscape
plants by providing a physical barrier around tree
trunks and shrubs, which eliminates the possible
damage from
lawn mowers
and weed trimmers. |
 |
Mulch is a natural insect repellent, reducing the
infestation of fleas, ticks, and other insects. |
